I was able to do this in 10 layers, basically I used an O to get the basic shape, then I added 4 of those rounded corner pieces, then I did 2 straight block pieces. They are lined up with the original O and stretched out how the real logo is. Then I just did the same thing on the inside but used them as erasers and fit the shape similar to the real logo. Only took 10 layers.
